Drawn Together by a Love of Cartooning
On Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Roman, who writes about fantasy and adventure aimed at young boys, will be signing copies of “Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity” (First Second, 2011), about a young boy who leaves behind life as an intergalactic superhero to go to middle school.
Ms. Telgemeier, who writes books aimed at young girls about her own childhood experiences, including “Smile” (Scholastic, 2010), based on a time in her life when she lost her two front teeth, will be signing copies of “Nursery Rhyme Comics” (First Second, 2011), a book of classic rhymes with short comics contributed by her, Mr. Roman and several dozen other cartoonists. Mr. Roman will also be signing copies of that book.
“As kids, Raina and I loved to draw and tell stories, and now we’re trying to inspire that passion in other kids,” Mr. Roman said. “What we’re doing now is just a continuation of the one thing from our childhood that we loved most.”
